However, the ketogenic diet has been linked to specific nutrient deficiencies that must be addressed through aggressive supplementation.

That's some fairly significant results.

I don't track my daily caloric intake, but then again I'm not a medical professional. I seem to have plateaued out around 72-73 kilos (158-160) pounds about 4 months ago. I work out 4-5 times a week (the 12 kilo runs on the elliptical + other stuff) but not religiously. Daily walks stopped a few weeks ago with the weather. I eat mostly salad, yogurt, bread, cheese, chicken, tuna, and a lot of beans.

This is a very interesting read, Dr. Steve. Thanks for publishing.

That sounds like a healthy diet and lifestyle, TW.

My personal diet tracking and analysis is a tedious hassle, but has to be done for at least a few weeks. Tools at NutritionData make it as easy as possible. This Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet is already available to the public, and I owe it to them to point out any drawbacks, such as micronutrient deficiencies. The ones I've identified so far can all be remedied easily.

What the KMD is missing is the myriad phytonutrients in a wider selection of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. To get those, the standard or Advanced Mediterranean diet is superior.

However, some people just can't lose lots of excess weight on a standard, or even Advanced, Mediterranean diet. Failures with the Advanced Mediterranean Diet may be a compliance issue.

This is where I hope the Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet has something to offer. Once the excess weight is off, whole grains, legumes, and more vegetables and fruits are added. Details still to be worked out.
